HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER

MRHC is a community of volunteers. We have very limited office staff support. We will accept membership applications and inquiries via email only.

Open Houses

We are not holding any open houses currently.

Subsidy

We may have subsidies available at this time.

Application Process

When applications have opened up, anyone interested must contact the Welcoming Committee to express their interest in attending an orientation meeting.

They will be put on an orientation meeting waitlist and contacted via email when and where the meeting will be held (in person or zoom). Orientation Meetings are held as needed, based on the length of the waiting list.

After their attendance at the orientation, they can again contact the Welcoming Committee to request an application. These will be sent as editable versions to fill out and return via email. Applications can also be mailed if requested.

The application will be kept on file for a period of one year. In order to have their application remain on file beyond a year, they must email the committee expressing their continued interest and any changes to the information currently on file.

As a unit becomes available, applicants will be contacted for an interview. It is preferred that all persons who will be occupying the unit attend the interview. Upon approval from the interviewing committee and the Board of Directors, a unit will be offered. Applicants offered a unit will have a maximum of 48 hours to respond.

Interview

The welcoming committee will contact you for an interview if you qualify for membership. At your interview you will learn more about the expectations and responsibilities of membership. Here you will also learn more about our co-op and will be able ask any questions that you may have. After your interview you will be notified if your membership application has been approved. If approved, your application will be placed on our wait list.

Wait List

No phone calls please. Please do not call and ask your position on our wait list or when you can expect a unit. Due to the lower mainland housing crisis, many applicants wait for years before they are offered a unit. Unit availability depends on vacancy rate and how many applicants are on the wait list.

When a unit becomes available, we start at the top of the wait list and continue down until a suitable applicant is available. Often when a unit becomes available many applicants have already found other housing and so your position on the list can move quite quickly. While you are on the waiting list, keep your application up-to-date. Let us know of any changes, be it address, phone number, or income changes. Please submit any changes by email.
